Welcome! I’ve owned and run Earthereal of Yorkshire since 2008: my name is Lois Skilleter and I’m based near Ilkley, on the edge of the famous Moor and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
I am fully qualified, and insured with IPTI, to practise and teach all my therapies: I am a member of IPTI (no.19170 and registered with the GRCCT. I hold QTS through my B. Ed. (Hons) degree and I hold a valid EFAW certificate and a DBS Enhanced Disclosure.
From Primary and Early Years teaching, I have worked my way through gemstone jewellery making to crystal healing, and from there, to Reiki, massage and the other therapies which I practise and teach. I became “hooked” as I discovered the gentle healing power of Reiki and studied to Master Practitioner Western style, before taking my Shinpiden (Master Teacher) course in the Japanese style, which spoke to me in a completely different way, and that is the way I practise and teach Reiki. It is more than simply a healing modality, it is a spiritual path where the responsibility for progression is entirely in the student’s own hands, and the hands-on healing comes out of this work on the Self. This brought me on to the wide range of therapies I now practise and teach.
I have been teaching Reiki and other holistic therapies since 2009. I love teaching and sharing the magic of holistic therapies, and am delighted to combine both my interests in my work. I see teaching as a two way process and often learn from my students as well as the other way round! I am humbled and delighted to find many of my students returning to take more courses, and sending me their friends who wish to learn! From 2009 to 2019, I taught courses for two other providers, and am now an independent tutor.
Professional Practitioner Diplomas are available in several Ayurvedic massage courses. I have a particular interest in Ayurveda, and have incorporated its benefits into these courses to make them accessible to a wider audience. I also offer one and three day Professional Practitioner Diploma courses in other modalities, please see Holistic Therapy Courses. Postgraduate courses in Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage and Hot Stones Massage are available for students who have a body massage qualification, please see the Postgraduate Courses page.
(Please note, my courses are written to the National Occupational Standards for Massage etc but due to the prohibitive costs, they are private, not national, qualifications and while fully insurable, do not carry “levels”.)
I gained my Usui Reiki Master Teacher qualification in March 2009, and teach Usui Reiki in the Japanese style to all levels. We use the manuals of the International House of Reiki and I teach along their lines. Anyone who has studied a different style of Reiki and feels drawn to the Japanese style is most welcome to discuss study with me. Please see the reiki courses page for more information and prices).
I also offer a distance learning course in Meditation Teaching which qualifies students with a Professional Diploma and equips them with the knowledge, confidence and resources to run meditation groups. This is because I feel it is too much to cover in a day but I want to keep it affordable rather than create a longer course, and the distance learning works well according to my graduates, especially as it aims to equip students with a resource bank they can use in their teaching.
As a registered trainer for Barnardo’s, I offer workshops to parents and foster carers to enable them to learn massage/relaxation techniques which they can use to help their family to relax. Workshops for adults, children and families are also available to the general public. I also work with the charities Cerebra and Aware.
During 2012 I developed “Me-Time” therapy sessions for families with additional needs. These provide short, affordable therapy sessions as part of a coffee morning/get together for parents, and have grown from around 3 attendees initially to around 15 at most sessions nowadays. I am delighted that two of the mums from Me-Time have studied with me and are now available to offer Reiki , Swedish back massage and Indian head massage at Me-Times. We are happy to offer a Me-Time session for other support groups too.
During school holidays I run “clinics” for children with additional needs, short therapy sessions for £15 per child or parent, or £25 for two siblings or child and parent. Having been a primary/early years teacher, I love working with children and will provide the therapy according to their individual needs and wishes. For more information about these sessions, please contact me.
Although I don’t work like a salon and am unable to take bookings for individual treatments for the general public, I am more than happy to offer treatments for families with additional needs, or for potential students: please contact me for details.
My students and clients are my first priority and I endeavour to offer a friendly, professional service so as to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable training or treatment experience. I believe strongly that we are our own best healers and that the therapist’s main role is to facilitate this self healing for their clients.
Thank you for visiting my site, and all best wishes to you.
